music that doesn't suck !

March 8, 2018.
The day the music died.
At roughly 2:30 this afternoon, federal agent John Kuzma from the Federal Communications Commission knocked on our front door.
This visit has been anticipated since we went on the air some 14 years ago. It has been a good run. A GREAT run. But John showed us his official fedral badge and provided us with this little ditty.
I was putty in his hands. No wrangling out of this one. The 60' broadcast tower alongside of John's car in the driveway was a little hard to conceal.
First offence gets me a warning. Second offence? Legal action... big fines... prison terms... Although friends have already offered cordless DeWalt grinders hidden in cakes, I don't look good in orange. So I pulled the plug. I hope that at least John enjoyed some music that does not suck on his way into town. It's not John's fault. He was just doing his job. But it is SOMEBODY'S fault.
According to John, KCTN out of Elkader is amping up the power and adding a repeater so that we can all further shrink our brains by listening to more F-ing country music. They did a "routine scan", found music that does not suck, and turned us in.
KCTN turned us in
Thanks assholes. Yes I am angry.
So it is with great sadness that the transmitter has been shut down. A sad day indeed. Diehard listeners can still stream the Pool. Streaming is sometimes hit or miss, but at least for the time being, remains alive.
A huge HUGE thanks goes out to all of our loyal listeners through the years. We have met so many wonderful people and made lifetime friendships through Pool10FM. I thank you ALL!

happened to FM radio? Do I have to tell you? Let's face it, we live in an era of
FM radio wasteland. Media consolidation and monopolization over the past two
decades has resulted in "manufactured consent" among their listeners, the
"bewildered herd". And here in Pool 10, we are spoonfed country music and "pay
for play" commercial rock from one end of the dial to the other. Commercial
radio around here SUCKS.
We try to be on the air every day from 7:25am sharp until the transmitter turns off at 1:50am. Sometimes we forget to turn on the transmitter. Some days we get lazy. Sometimes we go off the air for maintenance or because things are screwed up. Sometimes we go off the air because we don't want lightning to blow everything up. You get the idea.
We have managed to stay on the air since sometime in May 2004. Our range is small. We hope someday to crank up the power, but this is a double edge sword. You see, we want to stay on the air, and more power might be a detriment to this goal. Plus the electric bill is high enough already. Who knows what the future holds. Enjoy today.
Ironically, when it comes to radio, the only true pirates are those that are the media conglomerates, those that unabashedly raid the pockets and profit from their listeners, rather than the hobbyists. Indeed, commercially oriented broadcasting, with its jaundiced eye ever on the almighty dollar, relegates programming to a considerable inconvenience: consistently force-feeding boring, repetitive playlists down the throats of their ultimate sponsors: their listeners. Anymore, the bottom line in commercial radio is the bottom line, and entertainment is merely a by-product, if there is any at all.
